Cookie policy
Last updated: May 2026
A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser when you visit a website. This page explains the cookies and similar technologies cypressquillmedia.com uses.
Plain summary: the only thing we set without your consent is a small "you've seen the cookie banner" flag. Google Analytics cookies are only set after you click Accept on the banner. If you click Decline, no analytics cookies are set at all. Embedded third-party content (the Spotify podcast player, Gumroad checkout) may set its own cookies if you interact with them.
Manage your preferences
You can change your choice at any time. The button below resets your saved preference and reloads the page so the banner reappears.

First-party storage (set by this site)
| Name | Set when? | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
cqm_cookie_consent | Always (strictly necessary) | Records whether you accepted, declined, or haven't yet decided about analytics cookies, so the banner doesn't show on every visit. | Until cleared (localStorage, not a traditional cookie) |
Analytics cookies (set only after you click Accept)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used in aggregate (which pages are read, where visitors come from, what devices they use). Google Analytics drops the following cookies, and only when you have given consent:
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes unique visitors. | 2 years | |
_ga_XCM5JXJ10C | Persists session state for this property. | 2 years |
If you click Decline, the Google Analytics script is never loaded — no cookies, no requests to Google's servers, nothing. We also use Vercel Analytics (anonymous, cookieless aggregate visit data); this is not affected by the consent banner because it does not set cookies.
Cookies set by third parties
Some pages embed third-party content. If you interact with that content, the third party may set its own cookies. We have no control over these cookies; their use is governed by the third party's own privacy and cookie policies.
- Spotify (podcast player) — embedded on episode pages. May set cookies when you press play. See Spotify's cookie policy.
- Gumroad (digital product checkout) — clicking a "Buy & Download" button takes you to Gumroad, which sets its own cookies for the checkout session. See Gumroad's privacy policy.
- Kit (email subscriptions) — handles newsletter sign-ups. Kit's tracking is server-side; embedding the form on the site does not set cookies in your browser. See Kit's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts — fonts are loaded from Google's font CDN. The CDN does not set cookies, but the request includes your IP address (used by Google for rate-limiting and abuse prevention).
How to manage cookies in your browser
In addition to the consent control on this page, you can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Most browsers offer per-site controls under "Site settings" or "Privacy". For Google Analytics specifically, Google provides a browser opt-out add-on that disables tracking across all sites that use Google Analytics.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if our use of cookies changes — for example, if we add a new third-party tool. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version.
